California-born, Massachusetts-based artist Cecelia Chapman’s works in video and on paper emerge from a deep curiosity regarding the fluid connection between inner and outer knowledge, consciousness, and perception.

Her videos are contemporary fables that examine the power struggles, personal fantasies and social problems of characters in an uncertain world and complex media landscape through their relationship to environment, myth, legend, and storytelling. The videos merge documentary and experimental, and engage the poetics of image and text. She sources music from friends and sound artists that she meets online. Chapman’s essay driven works on paper are rooted in her graphic design training, and the examination of power propaganda in media communications.
